Frequently Asked Qustions on Firmware Upgrades

Q: How do I get a copy of the latest firmware?
A: Download it from our support web site: http://www.proxicast.com/support/downloads.htm

Q: Can I install this version on any LAN-Cell 2 unit?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this upgrade mandatory?
A: No.  Proxicast will continue to support all prior LAN-Cell 2 firmware releases. This firmware upgrade is only required if you need to deploy one of the newly supported 3G modems or wish to have any of the new features.

Q: Will all new LAN-Cell 2 units that I order have this version installed?
A: Yes. Beginning December 2008, all new LAN-Cell 2 units will ship with firmware 4.02(AQP.3) until a newer firmware version is released.

Q: Can I downgrade to a previous firmware version if I don't want to run 4.02(AQP.3)?
A: Yes, you can install any firmware version on any LAN-Cell 2 device.  However, due to differences in configuration memory structures, we recommend that you perform a factory reset prior to downgrading, then reconfigure your LAN-Cell from scratch or apply a configuration file saved from a device with the older firmware version installed.

Q: If I upgrade, will I lose my device configuration settings?
A: No.  However, we strongly recommend that you make a backup of your configuration settings prior to upgrading.

Q: Can the firmware upgrade be performed over the Cellular interface?
A: Yes.  We recommend that you install upgrades locally via a LAN or Console port connection; however it is possible to perform the upgrade over a cellular connection.  Please see the firmware upgrade instructions that are included with the download package.

Special Notice for Sierra Wireless AirCard 881 users on AT&T

After LAN-Cell 2 firmware 4.02(AQP.3) was qualified for release, Sierra Wireless released a firmware upgrade for the AirCard 881 for AT&T wireless users. This 881 firmware update (v. F1.2.3.15C) introduced an incompatibility with 4.02(AQP.3).  Proxicast has developed a patch to resolve the issue.  If you will be upgrading your AirCard 881 or it already has firmware F1.2.3.15C installed, please download the patched LAN-Cell 2 firmware from our support web site: http://www.proxicast.com/support/downloads.htm.  For more information, see our Knowledgebase article below.
