Proxicast IPSec VPN Client FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a static IP address on the LAN-Cell?       (back to top)
No. The Proxicast IPSec VPN Client software and the LAN-Cell firmware support Fully Qualified Domain Names (FQDN) as end-points for VPN tunnels. This means that the LAN-Cell, the VPN Client PC or both can have dynamic IP addresses yet can still create IPSec tunnels. You will need to have a dynamic DNS (DDNS) name assigned to at least one of the tunnel ends to use this feature. Some cellular carriers provide DDNS services; otherwise, use a service such as or
Why not just use the IPSec features in Windows?        (back to top)
You can create IPSec tunnels to the LAN-Cell using the IPSec features built into Windows. See our 31 page TechNote on how to configure the 28 parameters required in Windows.

Or, you can use the VPN Configuration Wizards in the LAN-Cell and the Proxicast VPN Client software to create an IPSec tunnel in 3 directed steps, entering just the PreShared Key, WAN IP address (or FQDN) of the LAN-Cell and the LAN IP subnet. We even have a TechNote to guide you. The Proxicast IPSec VPN Client software offers you many additional features and more flexibility.

Is there a version for MAC OS or Linux?        (back to top)
No. The Proxicast IPSec VPN Client software is available only for 32 & 64 bit versions of Microsoft Windows. There are other open-source and vendor-specific IPSec clients for MAC OS and Linux that should work with the LAN-Cell.
How is the software licensed?        (back to top)
The Proxicast IPSec VPN Client software is licensed on a "per PC" basis. Each PC that runs the software must have its own license key. License keys are transferable between PCs (see below). License fees include unlimited software updates for the life of the product. See our Online Ordering System for ordering details and discounts for more than 5 licenses per organization.
Can I move a license key to a new PC?        (back to top)
Yes. Simply uninstall the Proxicast IPSec VPN Client software on the first PC while the PC is connected to the Internet. This will deactivate your license key on our licensing server. Install the software on a new PC, enter the previous license key and re-enable the software by selecting the Activate button.
